How to Export IGC Files from Your Flight Tracker

Where to find the export button in XCTrack, Burnair, Flyskyhy, and XContest.

4 min read

Your tracker already saved an IGC file - you just need to get it out. Export location varies by app; here’s where to look in the ones most pilots use.

Not sure what an IGC file is? Quick primer here.

XCTrack

XCTrack is one of the most popular free tracking apps. To export:

  1. Open your flight history
  2. Tap on the flight you want
  3. Tap the share/export button (usually top-right)
  4. Select "Export IGC" or "Share IGC file"
  5. Choose where to save or share it

You can also long-press a flight in the list and select "Export" from the menu.

Burnair

Quick and straightforward:

  1. Open the menu
  2. Go to Flightbook
  3. Select Burnair Map App or Burnair Go App
  4. Find your flight and tap "IGC"
  5. The file downloads directly

Flyskyhy

  1. Go to the "Flights" tab
  2. Tap on the flight
  3. Scroll to find "Export" or "Share"
  4. Select "Export as IGC"
  5. Choose your sharing method

XContest

If you've uploaded flights to XContest, you can download the original IGC files:

  1. Log in to XContest
  2. Go to "My Flights" or a specific flight page
  3. Click on the flight
  4. Look for "Download IGC" or the download button

💡 Tip:

XContest also offers a bulk "Download: IGC" option on the My Flights page that gives you a ZIP with all your IGC files at once. Great for migrating an entire season into a logbook like SkyViz.

Dedicated GPS Devices

For devices like Flymaster or Oudie, connect to your computer via USB. The device appears as a drive - navigate to the "Flights" or "IGC" folder and copy the files you want.

Next Steps After Export

Once you have your IGC file, you can:

  • Upload to an IGC viewer for 2D or 3D visualization
  • Import into a digital logbook to automatically extract flight statistics
  • Create 3D videos for social media
  • Share with other pilots or use for flight analysis

Most tools will automatically extract all the flight data from your IGC file - distance, duration, altitude, and more. No manual entry needed. Check out SkyViz's features to see what's possible with your IGC files.

Troubleshooting

Can't find the export option?

Try long-pressing on the flight, checking the flight details page, or looking in the app's settings. Each app has a slightly different interface.

File won't open?

Make sure you exported the complete IGC file (not just a summary) and selected "IGC" format specifically. Try re-exporting if it's still problematic.

What’s next

Once you have the file, you can drop it into an IGC viewer for 3D replay, import it into a logbook (stats get pulled automatically), or turn it into a video. We built SkyViz to do all three from one upload - worth a try if you’re consolidating.
